Does Ottr Deliver to Cape Cod? Barnstable County Delivery, Explained

Yes. Ottr delivers bulk mulch, soil, sand, gravel and stone to all fifteen towns in Barnstable County. Every Cape town sits outside our 30-mile flat zone, so the fee runs from $188 per load in Bourne to $432 in Provincetown. The fee is charged per truck load, not per order.

Barnstable County is a new service area for us, so this page answers the question a Cape reader actually has: do you come out here, and what does it cost? Both answers are below, with the real numbers.

Does Ottr actually deliver to Cape Cod?

Yes. Our yard is at 18 Jan Karski Way in Dorchester and we deliver across Suffolk, Middlesex, Norfolk, Essex, Plymouth, Bristol and Barnstable Counties — more than 460 areas. Everything is sold by the cubic yard and delivered loose by dump truck, never bagged, with no minimum order.

What does bulk delivery to each Cape town cost?

Delivery is $100 per load inside 30 driving miles of the yard, plus $4 for every mile beyond 30. The nearest Cape town is about 55 miles out, so no part of Barnstable County qualifies for the flat rate. Where a range is shown it is real — different villages and ZIPs within the same town.

Town Delivery per load
Bourne $188 – $232
Sandwich $210 – $220
Barnstable (incl. Hyannis) $230 – $255
Falmouth $235 – $268
Mashpee $238
Yarmouth $266 – $269
Dennis $275 – $290
Harwich $288 – $308
Brewster $305
Chatham $309 – $317
Orleans $320 – $329
Eastham $341 – $343
Wellfleet $365 – $371
Truro $394 – $406
Provincetown $432

Those are per-load figures from the Dispatch Office in Dorchester. The ZIP checker on every product page, in the cart and on our delivery page returns the exact number for your address before you commit to anything.

Why is the fee charged per load instead of per order?

Because a dump truck carries one load per trip, and the trip costs the same whether the body is full or half empty. Provincetown sits about 113 driving miles from the yard — roughly 225 miles round trip. That is what the $432 pays for.

The consequence that matters: loads are counted per line item, not per order. Five yards of Black Mulch plus five yards of Red Cedar is two loads and two fees, even though ten yards of a single mulch rides out on one truck.

How many yards fit in one load?

Material Maximum per trip Coverage at typical depth
Mulch 10 cubic yards ~1,000 sq ft at 3 inches
Rock, stone, sand and soil 6 cubic yards ~486 sq ft of 4-inch loam

Use the formula for anything you are sizing: cubic yards = (square feet × depth in inches) ÷ 324. One yard of mulch covers about 100 square feet at three inches, or 160 square feet at two.

What does the load cap look like in real money?

This is the most useful thing on this page, so here it is in numbers. Take Black Mulch at $58 a yard, delivered to Chatham at $315 a load.

Order Loads Material Freight Total Per yard delivered
10 yd, one mulch 1 $580 $315 $895 $89.50
11 yd, one mulch 2 $638 $630 $1,268 $115.27
20 yd, one mulch 2 $1,160 $630 $1,790 $89.50
5 yd Black + 5 yd Red Cedar 2 $590 $630 $1,220 $122.00

That eleventh yard costs $373 — $58 of mulch and $315 of truck. Ordering to the cap is the biggest lever a Cape customer has. The logic runs downward too: if your maths says 4.2 yards of stone, you are paying for a six-yard load anyway, so take six.

Why do loam and compost orders run bigger on the Cape?

Because Cape soil is glacial outwash sand — washed sand and gravel left when the ice sheet retreated. It drains fast, holds almost no organic matter and retains very little water. A lawn that coasts ten days between rains in Needham fades in four on outwash. So Cape lawns and beds want more organic matter than an inland spec calls for: an inch or two of compost tilled in, or four to six inches of screened loam over graded sand rather than two or three. Browse bulk soil and loam — loam and topsoil $55 a yard, compost $50.

How do the bridges affect scheduling?

The Bourne and Sagamore bridges are the only ways onto the Cape and both queue in summer, so book weekday mornings. A truck that clears the canal early arrives when we said it would; a Friday midday run in July does not. Same-day and next-day is usually available, weekend slots fill first, and MassDOT posts live bridge conditions.

Where does the driver leave the material?

Curbside — end of the driveway or on the apron. On-property delivery requires a signed liability waiver, and on the Cape that matters: a loaded truck on soft sand or crushed shell can sink, and many outer-Cape lanes are narrow with no turning room.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a minimum order for Cape Cod delivery?

No. One cubic yard is a valid order anywhere in Barnstable County — but because the fee does not change with volume, small orders carry a high cost per yard.

Can two materials come on one truck?

No. Each line item is its own load, so two materials means two trips and two fees.

Is there a bridge toll or surcharge?

No toll, no bridge surcharge. It is the mileage formula only, which is why Bourne costs roughly half what Provincetown does.

Which towns are covered?

All fifteen: Bourne, Sandwich, Falmouth, Mashpee, Barnstable, Yarmouth, Dennis, Harwich, Brewster, Chatham, Orleans, Eastham, Wellfleet, Truro and Provincetown — grouped under Barnstable County Landscape Supply.

Two related reads: ordering mulch in Hyannis without paying for two trips works the cap maths through in detail, and five realities of bulk delivery to Chatham covers what changes down the elbow. For coastal-bank and wetland-buffer permitting, start with the Cape Cod Commission.
