FAQ

Why does my new gravel have dust on it?

That gray film is normal — it's rock dust picked up in crushing, stockpiling, and the ride over, and the first hard rain or a quick hose-down rinses it off. Decorative and drainage stone is screened and washed before it's sold; a thin transit film on top doesn't change what's underneath, and July thunderstorms usually handle the rinse for you.

Dust vs. fines — different things

  • Washed stone: surface dust is cosmetic and temporary
  • Base materials: Dense Pack, stone dust, and crushed concrete keep fines on purpose — that's what makes them compact and lock
  • In a hurry: ten minutes with a hose brings the true color up
