At Ottr, screened loam and screened topsoil are both natural soil run through a screen — and for most lawn and garden work they're interchangeable. "Loam" strictly describes a balanced texture of sand, silt, and clay; "topsoil" just means the upper layer of soil. Our loam is the lawn-grade staple, and both arrive screened of rocks and debris for easy raking.
Which to order
- Loam (screened): lawns, grading, general landscaping — the default pick
- Topsoil (screened): the same class of screened natural soil for fill-and-plant work
- Either one: plan 4–6" for a new lawn; both ship up to 6 yards per truckload
