FAQ

What is playground mulch made of?

Playground mulch is engineered wood surfacing — wood ground and sized specifically for play areas, with no dyes or colorants. It is springier underfoot than regular bark mulch and knits together into a cushioning layer as it settles. Unlike decorative mulch, it is chosen for how it performs under climbing feet, not how it looks in a bed, and the full safety details live on the product page.

How it differs from bed mulch

  • Processed for cushioning, not decoration
  • No colorants — a natural wood tone throughout
  • Installed much deeper: commonly 9–12 inches in play areas
  • Volume adds up fast — a 400 sq ft play area at 12 inches takes about 15 yards

One truckload carries up to 10 cubic yards. See Playground Mulch for details, and size the play area with the material calculator.
