FAQ

What is concrete sand used for?

Concrete sand is a coarse, washed sand used for mixing concrete, building drainage layers, leveling under above-ground pools, and general bedding work. The grit is the point — coarse particles lock together and drain freely where fine sand stays soft and soupy.

Common uses

  • Mixing concrete — the sand fraction in a standard mix
  • Drainage layers — under patios and in chronically wet spots
  • Above-ground pools — a smooth, drainable leveling base
  • Bedding and joint work — wherever a coarser washed sand is called for

Heads up on weight: sand runs about 2,700 lbs per cubic yard, which is why it ships up to 6 yards per load. Order Concrete Sand by the yard, delivered Monday–Saturday across Greater Boston and Eastern Massachusetts.
