For sweeping joints, fine mason sand is the classic pick; #10 stone dust packs firmer and locks pavers with a more rigid feel. Sand flows deep into narrow joints and tops up easily after a wash-out. Stone dust — fine granite screenings — binds when compacted, so joints stay put but are harder to refresh.
