FAQ

Should I use landscape fabric under mulch?

Usually no — skip landscape fabric under mulch and save it for under decorative stone. Mulch's whole value is that it breaks down and feeds the soil; fabric blocks that exchange, and within a season or two weeds root happily in the decomposed layer sitting on top of the fabric anyway.

Where fabric belongs

  • Under stone beds: yes — it keeps stone from sinking into the soil
  • Under mulch: no — rely on a full 3-inch layer for weed control
  • On slopes under gravel: yes — pairs well with angular stone

A proper 3-inch layer handles weed suppression on its own and feeds the soil as it breaks down — no fabric required. Browse the bulk mulch collection — up to 10 yards per delivery.
