Rice stone vs pea stone: what's the difference?

The difference is one size step: Rice stone is ¼-inch and Pea stone is ⅜-inch — both smooth, rounded Riverbed. That eighth of an inch changes the feel: rice packs tighter and reads almost like coarse sand from a distance, while pea keeps a classic pebbled texture.

Underfoot, rice feels firmer for bare feet, while pea gives the satisfying crunch people expect from a gravel patio. Both migrate without edging, and both spread at 2–3 inches deep. Compare Rice Stone ¼" and Pea Stone ⅜" — plenty of projects use rice in the joints and pea in the field.
