FAQ

Pea stone or crushed stone for a dog run?

Rounded ⅜" pea stone is the better surface for a dog run — easy on paws — laid over a compacted stone dust base that drains and rinses clean. Sharp crushed stone belongs in driveways, not under pads, so keep angular material out of the top layer.

A dog run that stays dry

  • Base: 2–3" of #10 stone dust, compacted and pitched slightly to drain
  • Top: 2–3" of rounded pea stone for comfortable footing
  • Edging: rounded stone migrates — contain the perimeter
  • Cleanup: solids lift easily off stone, and a hose-down finishes the job

Both layers are heavy materials delivered in 6-yard loads. Start with Riverbed ⅜" pea stone and #10 stone dust, and size each layer with the material calculator.
