FAQ

Is it OK to store bulk salt outside?

Yes — bulk salt stores outdoors just fine as long as it stays covered. A tarp weighted at the edges, or a lidded bin, keeps rain and snowmelt from dissolving the pile or fusing it into a crust.

Storage basics

  • Stage the pile on pavement or in a bin — never on a lawn, where brine kills grass
  • Re-tarp after every scoop; moisture is the only real enemy
  • Sitting for weeks between storms? Treated salt resists clumping better than untreated

Plan the pad before the truck comes: a 5-yard pile runs about the footprint of a parking space and stands 3–4 ft tall. Buying by the yard means no mid-storm bag runs — one delivery carries most properties through the season. Order untreated rock salt, or call or text (617) 645-0987 to talk through quantities.
