FAQ

How much loam and seed for a 500 sq ft bare patch?

Plan on about 4 cubic yards of screened loam for a 500 sq ft bare patch — 2 to 3 inches of new soil works out to roughly 3 to 4.6 yards. Ottr delivers the loam; pick up seed and starter fertilizer at a garden center, since we're bulk materials only. Your timing is good — late August through September is the prime seeding window here.

The repair in three steps

  • Rough up the dead area and spread loam 2–3 inches deep
  • Rake smooth, firm lightly, and seed
  • Water lightly every day until the new grass is up

Order screened loam by the yard — up to 6 cubic yards per load — and double-check the math with the material calculator.
