FAQ

How much compost should I mix into new garden beds?

Till 2–3 inches of compost into the top 6–8 inches of soil. That ratio turns tired ground into a real planting bed without overloading it. A 10×10 bed (100 sq ft) at 2 inches works out to 0.62 yards — order the 1-yard minimum and put the extra to work on nearby beds, planters, or thin spots in the lawn. Compost is also the lightest soil product we carry, at roughly 1,100 lbs per yard, so it moves fast by wheelbarrow.

Compost by bed size (2-inch layer)

100 sq ft 1 yard (minimum order)
200 sq ft 1.5 yards
400 sq ft 2.5 yards

Order bulk compost, and check your own bed dimensions with the material calculator before you check out.
