A 12-foot fire pit circle takes about 1 to 1.5 cubic yards of pea stone at 3 inches deep. The circle works out to roughly 113 sq ft, and 113 × 3 ÷ 324 = 1.05 yards — order 1.5 to cover settling and the edging line.
Common fire pit circles at 3" deep
| Diameter | Area | Order |
|---|---|---|
| 10 ft | ~79 sq ft | 1 yd |
| 12 ft | ~113 sq ft | 1.5 yd |
| 14 ft | ~154 sq ft | 1.5 yd |
Pea stone is the classic surround — rounded, comfortable underfoot, quick-draining — but it migrates without edging, so ring the circle first — steel edging or a paver border both work. Order Pea Stone (Riverbed ⅜") or size a different shape with the material calculator.
