A few days to two weeks is no problem — mulch is happiest spread, but it will not spoil sitting in a pile. In cool early-spring weather there is no rush at all; in summer heat, plan to spread within the first week or so. Many customers take delivery on a weekday and spread over the following weekend, which is exactly how the timing is meant to work.
What is normal in a sitting pile
- Steam or internal warmth — active decomposition, not a problem
- Some settling and compaction — it fluffs right back with a fork
- A dry surface while the core stays moist underneath
A tarp over the pile is optional — it keeps the mulch drier and the pavement cleaner. Shop bulk mulch when you are ready to book a date.
