Multiply cubic yards by the material's weight: crushed stone runs about 1.4 tons per yard, sand 1.35, loam 1.05, and mulch just 0.45. Working backward, one ton of stone is roughly 0.7 cubic yards. For reference, a full 6-yard stone load is about 8.4 tons.
