5 Things to Know Before Ordering Bulk Material Over the Bourne Bridge

Yes, we deliver to Bourne. The fee is $188–$232 per load depending on village — Sagamore Beach $188, Buzzards Bay $201, Cataumet $232 — because Bourne sits about 55 driving miles from our Dispatch Office in Dorchester. The fee is charged per truck load, not per order.

Bourne is the first town in Barnstable County we reach and the cheapest Cape delivery we run. It is also the only Cape town with land on both sides of the canal, which is why its pricing looks odd at first glance.

1. Do you actually deliver to Bourne, and what does it cost?

We do. Our yard is at 18 Jan Karski Way in Dorchester and Bourne is roughly 55 driving miles out. Delivery is $100 per load inside 30 driving miles, plus $4 for every mile beyond 30 — so Bourne is past the flat rate, and the fee varies by village.

Bourne village Side of the canal Delivery per load
Sagamore Beach Mainland $188
Buzzards Bay Mainland $201
Cataumet Cape side $232

Monument Beach, Pocasset, Bourne village and Bournedale fall between those numbers. The ZIP checker on any product page returns the exact figure for your address before you pay anything.

2. Why is the fee per load instead of per order?

Because a dump truck makes one trip per load, and the truck does not care what is in the body. Two trips to Cataumet is two trips whether the second carries six yards or one.

3. How many yards fit in one load?

Material Maximum per trip
Mulch 10 cubic yards
Rock, stone, sand and soil 6 cubic yards

Loads are counted per line item, not per order. Five yards of Black Mulch plus five yards of Red Cedar is two loads, even though ten yards of a single mulch rides out on one truck. In Buzzards Bay that choice is a $201 difference for the same ten yards. It runs the other way too: if you need 3.6 yards of base stone you are paying for a six-yard load anyway, so add the two yards you will want for the shed pad in August.

4. When should you book the truck?

Weekday mornings. Both canal crossings queue in summer — the Bourne Bridge feeds Route 28 south, the Sagamore feeds Route 6 — and a truck that clears the canal before mid-morning arrives when we said it would. MassDOT posts live conditions for both bridges. Same-day and next-day slots are usually available; weekends fill first.

5. Where will the driver actually put it?

Curbside — end of the driveway or on the apron. On-property delivery requires a signed liability waiver, and on the Cape that matters: a loaded truck on soft sand or crushed shell can sink, and the sandy shoulders through Pocasset and Monument Beach are not as firm as they look. Describe the approach when you order and we will tell you honestly what is possible.

What can I get delivered to Bourne?

Everything we sell, by the cubic yard, loose. Browse the full catalogue, or start with bulk mulch at $55–$63 a yard and soil and loam at $45–$70. Bourne addresses sit under Bourne Landscape Supply. For hardscape, our guide to building a paver base that survives coastal salt air transfers directly to a Bourne yard, and the Cape Cod Commission covers permitting on larger regrading.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a minimum order for Bourne?

No. One cubic yard is a valid order — but the fee is the same for one yard as for ten, which is why most Bourne orders come in near the cap.

How much area does a yard of mulch cover?

About 100 square feet at three inches, or 160 at two. The formula is cubic yards = (square feet × depth in inches) ÷ 324.

Do you charge extra for the bridge?

No toll, no bridge surcharge. It is mileage only, which is why Sagamore Beach on the mainland side comes in below Cataumet.

Put your Bourne ZIP into the checker on any product page for an exact delivered price, or text (617) 286-2740 and we will price the load.
