Route 9 through the middle of town is the Old Boston Post Road, and Benjamin Franklin's 1763 milestones still stand along it, while Route 148 runs south toward Sturbridge. Working farmland survives along Lake Road and Long Hill Road, and the southern half rises into small hills with firmer, stonier footing.
