Bristol County runs from the Rhode Island line to Buzzards Bay, and no two corners of it look alike. New Bedford still works a fishing fleet off Route 18 while Fall River's granite mills climb the hills above Mount Hope Bay. Taunton sits at the Route 24, Route 44 and Route 140 junction in the middle of the county's river basin, Attleboro and North Attleborough carry the old jewelry trade along the I-95 corridor, and Easton, Mansfield and Norton spread north into commuter country. Between them are the farm towns — Rehoboth, Dighton, Berkley, Westport — where lots run to acres and driveways run long.

Soils vary as much as the towns do: clay and silt loam through the Taunton River basin, coastal sandy outwash toward Buzzards Bay and Horseneck Beach, glacial till across the interior, and cranberry-bog country up through Freetown and Acushnet. That means screened loam for building lawns over sand, ¾" crushed stone and dense pack for driveways and drainage where the ground holds water, bark mulch by the yard for bed lines around triple-deckers and farmhouses alike, and decorative stone for borders and dry riverbeds. Everything is sold by the cubic yard and delivered by dump truck, with no minimum order and a typical load running 5 to 6 yards.

Bristol County sits outside our 30-mile flat zone almost everywhere. Road distance from our Dispatch Office runs from about 26 miles at Easton — the one Bristol town inside the flat zone, at our $100 flat rate — out to roughly 56 miles at Fairhaven and the far end of Dartmouth. Delivery pricing tracks that honestly: $100 covers the first 30 miles, then $4 per mile beyond, so Bristol County orders land between about $100 and $205.
