Route 62 runs the length of town past Berlin Orchards at Lower Sawyer Hill Road, while I-495 clips the eastern edge and feeds the Highland Commons retail strip on the Hudson line. The old hay, asparagus and poultry farms left decent topsoil in the bottoms, but the uplands are ordinary Worcester County glacial till — stones every time you turn a shovel. Lots run large, and the long private drives set back from Route 62 need re-topping every few springs.
