Ottr's dump trucks need 13.5 ft minimum overhead clearance and 10 ft minimum side clearance to access your delivery point. We don't dump over fences (the trucks lift their bed straight up, not arc-style). If your driveway has tighter access than that, we'll get the truck as close as safely possible and unload curbside.
The clearance specs
- Overhead clearance: minimum 13.5 ft. Tree branches, overhead utility lines, and low garage doors are blockers.
- Side clearance: minimum 10 ft (truck width plus margin).
- Surface load: standard residential concrete handles a loaded truck (~30,000–40,000 lbs). Older asphalt or paver driveways may show wheel impressions or hairline cracks.
- Slope: dump trucks can handle moderate slopes but very steep driveways (>15%) make safe unloading hard.
What we can and can't do
| Scenario | Can deliver? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Standard suburban driveway | ✅ Yes | Default — curbside or drive-on |
| Narrow alleyway (<10 ft wide) | ❌ No | Truck physically can't enter |
| Low overhead branches/wires (<13.5 ft) | ❌ No | Trim branches or pick a different drop spot |
| Drop over fence | ❌ No | Truck bed lifts straight up, not arc-style |
| Through a backyard gate | ⚠️ Sometimes | Depends on gate width and surface; ask before ordering |
| Drop on a lawn (on-property) | ✅ With waiver | Heavy truck can leave wheel ruts — customer waiver required |
| Curbside near drop point | ✅ Yes | Default for tight-access addresses |
What to do if your access is tight
- Order anyway — we'll get as close as safely possible and unload curbside. Plan for wheelbarrow trips from the drop point.
- Add notes at checkout describing your access (gate width, overhead trees, surface type). Our dispatcher reviews before scheduling.
- For very tight sites, call (617) 645-0987 first — we can sometimes route a smaller truck or coordinate a different placement.
